Yantai Fangcheng Hedge Trimmer Safety Operating Procedures

Release time: 2025-09-15 16:29:16

  (1) Equipment Application Scenarios

Warning! For safety reasons, trimmers equipped with straight blade holders such as models 187 and 180 may only be used for hedge trimming operations within enclosed highways.

When equipped with composite rotating circular saw blade holders such as models 130X or 160X, the product may be used for hedge trimming on non-enclosed general roads only after implementing robust and reliable safety precautions.

  (2) Special Safety Emphasis

Warning! Before each operation, always inspect whether the center hole screws of the blades or circular saw blades are loose and ensure they are securely tightened! Always inspect blades or circular saw discs for damage. Replace immediately if damaged!

  DANGER!

This machine cuts hedge branches using the impact force generated by high-speed rotating blades, resulting in extremely high linear speeds at the cutting edges. Accidental contact with hard objects may cause brittle fracture of the blade body, leading to personal injury and/or equipment damage!

Therefore, exercise extreme caution during operation to avoid collision with the following (including but not limited to) hard objects:

  1. Signposts for road signs

  2. Bridges and bridge piers

  3. Guardrail panels and their posts

  4. Curbstones

  5. Rocks and other hard foreign objects within hedges, shrubs, or weeds

  6. Thick tree trunks exceeding design specifications

If any of the above situations occur, immediately cease operation, replace the damaged blade, and inspect the equipment for damage. Only resume operation after confirming the equipment is in good condition!

  (3) Critical Safety Instructions

This machine must only be operated, maintained, and serviced by personnel familiar with its characteristics and possessing relevant safety knowledge. Always adhere to accident prevention rules and other safety regulations.

The manufacturer assumes no liability for reduced reliability, equipment damage, or personal injury resulting from unauthorized modifications to the machine.

The generator unit supplied with this machine is exclusively for powering this machine and must not be used for any other purpose.

Following the requirements and warnings in this manual can prevent most accidents.

  DANGER!

No non-operating personnel are permitted within 30 meters of the equipment during operation!

  Intended Use

When equipped with straight blade holders (models 187, 180, etc.), this product is strictly limited to fully enclosed highway hedge trimming operations. Any other use may cause injury to the user, third parties, or damage to the equipment itself and is strictly prohibited.

When equipped with circular saw blade composite rotary holders (models 130X, 160X), this product may be used in non-highway settings provided reliable safety precautions are implemented.

  Operator Safety Responsibilities

  1. Master procedures to rapidly stop the cutting motor on the cutter head, interrupt generator output, and shut down the generator unit during emergencies.

  2. Understand the functions of each button on the handheld remote control and operate it proficiently.

  3. Ensure all operators receive adequate instruction and training.

WARNING! Equipment operators must undergo pre-operation training. Operating the equipment without training poses a high risk of equipment failure and personal injury!

  (IV) Pre-Operation Inspection

Before each startup, thoroughly inspect the following items and confirm their status meets requirements:

  (Listed by priority)

  1. Rotating blades securely fastened

  2. Engine oil level meets requirements

  3. Telescopic arm wire rope (if applicable) properly tensioned

  4. No hydraulic system leaks

  5. Other abnormal conditions

  DANGER!

Before starting the main motor, always “raise the blade carriage”—that is, position the blade's rotation plane perpendicular to the ground and ensure the extension path has reliable barriers or is clear of personnel within 30 meters!

Note: To minimize the risk of personal injury and equipment damage from operational errors, this machine's power distribution control system incorporates active safety design measures. The main motor cannot start when the telescopic arm is in certain orientations. When the main motor is running, equipment rotation is restricted. See the “Active Safety Design” section for details.

  (1) Main Motor Rotation Direction

When viewed from above (top of main motor toward output shaft), the main motor rotates clockwise.

  DANGER!

When viewed from top to bottom (with the cutter head horizontal), the main motor rotates clockwise.

Incorrect wiring of the main motor will cause reverse rotation. If the main motor rotates in the wrong direction, it may cause the blade set screw to loosen and fall out, resulting in the blade flying off and causing a serious accident!

Always verify the correct rotation direction of the main motor!

  DANGER!

When wiring is incorrect, the main motor may rotate in reverse. This can cause blade fastening screws to loosen, the blade assembly to detach, and potentially lead to serious accidents!

  (2) Remote Control Usage Precautions

Operators must thoroughly understand the functions of each remote control button and be proficient in its operation.

The red stop button instantly cuts power to the main motor—this must be remembered!

Note: After pressing the blade start button, the blade motor undergoes several pre-start cycles. It reaches operating speed after multiple jogging cycles, a process automatically controlled by the program.

Note: The remote control is set with a digital key; remote controls for different devices cannot be interchanged.

Important: The rectangular white block beneath the remote control is the “magnetic control switch,” which adheres magnetically to the base. In emergencies such as button malfunction, pulling this switch will force the equipment to stop immediately.

Note: The remote control only functions when the magnetic switch is securely attached to the base. If the remote fails, first check whether this magnetic switch has detached.

  (3) Active Safety Features

To ensure operational safety on highways, this machine incorporates unique electrical control logic tailored to highway work characteristics:

  1. When the main motor is not running, the machine body can rotate freely.

  2. When the telescopic arm is positioned outside the left/right working zones, the main motor cannot start.

  3. The main motor can only start when the telescopic arm is within the left or right working zones;

  4. After the main motor starts (with the telescopic arm positioned within the working zone), the equipment body can only rotate within the working zone.

  (4) Active Safety Function Disengagement

Under special circumstances, temporarily disengage the active safety function by toggling the disengagement switch.

  WARNING!

After disabling the “active safety feature,” pay special attention to risks arising from potential misoperation. Under normal circumstances, its use is strictly prohibited!

  (5) Circular Saw Blade Composite Rotating Cutter Head

Certain models can mount the “Circular Saw Blade Composite Rotating Cutter Head,” including the 130X, 160X, and 180 models.

Note: When trimming hedges on unclosed roads or in other settings, only this type of cutter head may be used. Appropriate safety measures must still be taken to prevent injury to pedestrians.

  WARNING!

Only use the steel woodworking circular saw blades specified on the previous page. Do not use blades with welded diamond cutting tips.

  DANGER!

Improper use of circular saw blades with diamond-tipped cutting edges poses a serious risk: if the blade collides with a hard object during operation, the diamond tips may detach and project at high speed, endangering personnel!

  (5) Operational Safety

  (1)Test Run

Before formal operation, after conducting a thorough static inspection of the equipment, perform an idle run test for at least 1 minute. This verifies performance and safety under dynamic conditions while lubricating the equipment.

  1. Rotate the machine body back and forth to confirm normal operation;

  2. Raise/lower and extend/retract the telescopic arm to confirm normal operation;

  3. Swing the cutter head up and down to confirm normal operation;

  4. Rotate the body to position the telescopic boom within the “working area,” placing the cutter head vertically above the ground (with the rotating plane of the blades or circular saw perpendicular to the ground). After confirming no personnel are within 30 meters along the blade/saw rotation plane, start the main motor and run it for over 1 minute to verify normal operation.

  WARNING!

When starting the main motor, ensure the cutter deck is upright—i.e., the rotating plane of the blades or saw is perpendicular to the ground—and verify no pedestrians are within 30 meters of the blade's rotation path.

When trimming central hedges, the recommended flat-cut operation mode is: first trim 2/3 of the hedge width, then trim the remaining opposite section on the return pass.

  DANGER!

Even if the hedge width is less than or equal to the equipment's scanning width, the first trim must only reach two-thirds of the total width. Failure to do so may cause a major accident where the rotary blade collides with oncoming vehicles!

Safety precautions must be implemented in strict accordance with local highway operation regulations!

The straight blade holder has a maximum cutting diameter of 20mm, while the rotary blade holder has a maximum cutting diameter of 100mm.

If the blade encounters a hard object during operation, immediately stop work and inspect the blade. If the blade's integrity cannot be confirmed, replace it with a new one!

Note: The telescopic arm must be perpendicular to the direction of travel; otherwise, the rate of missed trimming will significantly increase.

Note: Adjust the carrier vehicle position and telescopic arm length based on the actual hedge width, positioning the outer edge of the blade holder at 2/3 of the total hedge width. A shorter overall telescopic arm length reduces carrier vehicle tilt, resulting in smoother equipment operation.

  Vertical Trimming

  DANGER!

During vertical trimming operations, constantly monitor and control vehicle speed to maintain sufficient clearance between the blade assembly and obstacles. Avoid collisions between rotating blades and hard objects such as guardrails or posts.
